INTRODUCTION
There are three stages of initial formation: postulancy, Novitiate and Scholasticate.




POSTULANCY
This stage last for two years and takes place at Orlu, Nigeria. The emphasis at this stage is the formation of a prayerful, community-minded, and scholarly individuals. At this stage, the candidate's sense of generosity and charity is constantly challenged.


NOVITIATE PERIOD
This stage introduces the candidant to an in-depth study and exprience of prayer and meditation, Biblical knowledge, the nature of the Congregation he has chosen and it relevance in his personal life, and community life. This period is a must in our sense of values and increases in us that desire to live closer to christ. After 2 years, the individual makes his first religion consecration. Novitiate is done in Marist International Novitiate House, Kumasi, Ghana with Marist Novices drawn from West African countries

This stage allows a young Brother to complete the course he embarked upon since the postulancy. Along with other young Marist Brothers of the African continent, he has the opportunity to follow a four year theological and professional program leading to a Diploma in Religious Studies and B.Ed degree in the Marist International University College
